Top 10 Movies of 2014

For all you die-hard movie fans, this post is for you! As 2014 starts to wrap itself up in a neat little bow, there are a couple of films that stood out this year. Movies were a huge hit in 2014 grossing out in $8.7 billion at the box office alone! It’s no surprise with big-name franchises such as The Hunger Games, X-Men, and Transformers, to see these films breaking the top 10 list. (Way to go Jennifer Lawrence!) And of course you have Marvel’s newest breakout movie in the number 1 spot with Guardians of the Galaxy, along with its fellow Marvel companions Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 not too far behind it.

So who else broke the top 10? Check below and see!

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1
3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

5. Transformers: Age of Extinction
6. Maleficent
7. X-Men: Days of Future Past
8. Dawn of the Planet Apes

Much like 2013, Marvel, Disney, and Lionsgate dominate the list of the highest grossing films at the box office, and yet only 4 of the top 10 movies are not sequels. While movie sequels aren’t exactly a new concept, they have definitely become a real trend for movie success in the past few years.  Here is the list of the top 10 movies at the box office from 2013 just to compare:

1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
2. Iron Man 3
3. Frozen
4. Despicable Me 2
5. Man of Steel
6. Gravity
7. Monsters University
8. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
9. Fast & Furious 6
10. Oz the Great and Powerful

Now as we look to 2015, what are we most excited to see? One of the most anticipated movies for next year is Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, along with its reboot of Fantastic Four. avengers 2 Films such as Terminator Genisys, and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens also have the internet all abuzz, so it should be an exciting and action packed year for movies. I for one am a huge movie-fan, and in addition to movies, I love to stay up to date with entertainment news! If you also love to keep yourself in the loop on all things movie and television I recommend you check out Entertainment Weekly, and WATCH! Magazine.
