5 Yoga Poses You Should Be Practicing

We’ve all heard about the many benefits of yoga and how it encourages overall health and wellness. It’s a great way to relieve stress by doing some light physical activity, unclutter your mind and help you re-focus. But where to start? Before you head out and buy yourself a yoga mat, check out these great poses from Yoga Journal that you can practice at home.

1. Full Boat Pose

Benefits:
-Strengthens the abdomen, hip flexors, and spine
-Stimulates the kidneys, thyroid and prostate glands, and intestines
-Helps relieve stress
-Improves digestion


 

2.  Marichi’s Pose

Marichi Pose

Benefits:
-Massages abdominal organs, including the liver and kidneys
-Stretches the shoulders
-Stimulates the brain
-Relieves mild backache and hip pain
-Strengthens and stretches the spine


 

3. Bound Angle Pose

Bound Angle Pose

Benefits:

-Stimulates abdominal organs, ovaries and prostate gland, bladder, and kidneys
-Stimulates the heart and improves general circulation
-Stretches the inner thighs, groins, and knees
-Helps relieve mild depression, anxiety, and fatigue
-Soothes menstrual discomfort and sciatica
-Helps relieve the symptoms of menopause
-Therapeutic for flat feet, high blood pressure, infertility, and asthma
-Consistent practice of this pose until late into pregnancy is said to help ease childbirth.


 

4. Bharadvaja’s Twist

-Relieves lower backache, neck pain, and sciatica

-Especially good in the second trimester of pregnancy for strengthening the lower back

5.  Hero Pose
