The 5 Best Cooking Magazines!
Do you have a passion for cooking? Getting tired of take-out or making the same thing for dinner again? Maybe you’ve seen our monthly recipe blog contest, Chef’s Corner, where we ask you to send in a recipe to be featured on our blog and want to participate but don’t know where to start. Well, I’ve got a list of the five best cooking magazines for you to check out. These magazines cover a range of dietary styles, from Southern home-style to vegetarian. Even if you’ve only ever been able to make chocolate chip cookies or ramen noodles, these magazines will help you take it to the next level.
Cooks Illustrated is published once every two months, but offers a huge amount of new recipes and reviews of kitchen equipment. The best thing about Cooks Illustrated is the way it walks you through each step of the cooking process and doesn’t just say what you should do next, but why you should take that step. It also gives alternatives and ways to alter each recipe to your specific needs or preferences. This is a great choice for people who have just never ‘gotten’ cooking but would like to and it makes a great gift!
Southern Living covers many aspects of life in the South, including home decoration and planning in addition to what is arguably the most important aspect of Southern culture, cooking. The magazine even features an Annual Cooking Edition, which focuses entirely on Southern food. And if you’re worried that the magazine will only have high calorie options like fried chicken and biscuits and gravy, you’ll find plenty of healthy recipes to choose from too.
Do you have a friend or loved one that has stopped eating meat? Or maybe you want to participate in Meatless Mondays and need some ideas for where to start? Vegetarian Times has lots of recipes in each issue to try out, and also features articles on other aspects of vegetarian life, like getting the right nutrients in your diet. Most recipes featured are designed to be able to be made quickly so that on weeknights you aren’t spending tons of time just trying to get a healthy meal together.
Martha Stewart Living covers many topics that you would expect it to – crafts, decorating, and cooking. The magazine focuses on using ingredients that are in season, like heirloom tomatoes in the summer and root vegetables in the fall and winter. Because Martha Stewart covers so many topics, this magazine is great for people who love to throw dinner parties, since it will give you ideas not only on what to cook, but how to decorate your place to really wow your guests.
Food Network Magazine features recipes from all of the chefs you would routinely see on their cable TV channel. It’s filled with instructions and recipes, including some that are exclusively made by the celebrity chefs for magazine readers. Food Network Magazine also has a feature 30 minute or less recipe in every issue.
